MHS top Group `A‘, to advance to semi-finals

`Screw’ Richmond Under-18 football …
… other two slots could be decided today

THERE is a toss-up encounter in Group B this afternoon  between New  Silvercity Secondary (NSS) and Wisburg Secondary in their final game of their second round fixture of this year’s 2nd annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Linden Schools Under-18 football championships  among secondary schools in the bauxite mining town.
Wisburg only need a draw to secure one of the two spots still available while NSS need a win to stand any chance of making it to the last four. Christianburg/Wismar should cop the other slot by beating School of Excellence.
Reigning champions Mackenzie High School (MHS), by virtue  of a walkover win in the tournament’s most recent game last Thursday, completed their quota of matches with an unblemished record and reached the final four of this year’s championship which was played on a round-robin format in two groups at various grounds in Linden.
By gaining the win over Marcia Craig Institute, MHS ended  on 16 points from five wins and one draw to head Group A, with Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) who came second on 12  points after four wins and two losses, both to MHS, being the other team to reach the semi-finals from group A.
Of little significance is the fact that the other schools contesting in this group are out of contention with Wisburg Annexe having four points from a win and a draw and four losses while Marcia Craig Institute are still to record a  point.
In Group B the draw is still to be decided as Wismar/Christianburg lead with 12 points and a game in hand against School of Excellence on Thursday.
Their only loss was to NSS while Wisburg lie currently in second position on 10 points after three wins, two losses  and one draw while NSS  are on eight points with this game against Wisburg. They have two wins and two draws and a loss.
However, Wismar/Christianburg are favoured to beat School of Excellence who only have one point from a  drawn game, and four losses and did not shown up for their last encounter.
