POLICE are hunting for a prisoner who escaped from Reliance Station, in Canje, Berbice on Tuesday morning.
The hunt is for Chetram Singh, 26, of Betsy Ground, Canje, who fled from the lock-ups about 01:30 h, after having been arrested on March 12.
The Police said he had been found in possession of a stolen electrical generator and was charged to appear in Court but a check on the cell where he was being held revealed that boards had been removed from its wall to facilitate the escape.
Two ranks who were on duty at the time have since been put under close arrest as the circumstances of Singh’s flight to freedom are being investigated.
