Guyana has moved up in global competitiveness

WHILE perusing the newspapers yesterday something caught my interest and reaffirmed my view that the Stabroek News continually tries to paint a picture that in Guyana nothing good is happening.
The article on the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) published by the newspaper says that Guyana has moved up slightly in global competitiveness. I think that
the fact that Guyana has been able to move up 11 places in the report means that our country met the criteria for grading and has scored better this year due to improved conditions.
If the right things were not put in place then it’s obvious that the results would have been different. While nothing is perfect, people often exaggerate and create a bad impression of Guyana. But I am sure that the critics would, if they have a conscience, know that their words are proved wrong so many times and on different issues. This is an international report which is not something that Guyana can influence for their benefit. These international bodies tell it like it is and time and again we are shown that the progress in Guyana is recognised by the major countries.
I also wonder why the newspaper headline was one which did not bring out a more positive line. The fact that Guyana moved up so many places to rank above 29 other countries means a lot for our developing nation and the newspaper should be interested in promoting a positive image of our dearly beloved land, however, the newspaper is not shy to playing up the negatives. All of these things point to the newspaper having its own aims and objectives and possibly will not pay any attention to placing importance on issues such as these that would only contribute to nation building.
