As Guyana observes its 40th Republic Anniversary it is a time for us to reflect as a people where we have come and the progress we have made as an independent Nation.
As a nation, we must pause to reflect on the contributions of our leaders to the realization of this achievement. Indeed it is a day for Guyanese to embrace each other, put aside differences and celebrate in unity.
It is a day for renewed resolve, where Guyanese can pledge their service to the land of their birth, and rededicate their energies to the prosperity of the country. As we renew this pledge, let us recall our fore parents who fought for Guyana’s Independence.
Such retrospection must produce within us a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for their singleness of purpose in pursuing the objective of bringing freedom to Guyana.
On reflecting on our achievements of the years, we should be reminded that we are nation of six races and we are all living together, realizing our Nation’s Motto of One People, One Nation and One Destiny.
There is no doubt that we have matured as a Nation over the years and our leaders at the religious and political realm have and continues to express maturity by communicating with each other on all matters of national growth and development.
However, there is room for improvement and as we observe another Republic Anniversary, the ERC calls on Guyanese to express greater appreciation  of the cultural diversity that exists within our nation.
We have indeed inherited a rich legacy – a legacy, which we must preserve and pass on to future generations
As we do so, let us all strive toward harmonious relations with our brothers and sister of all ethnic and cultural diversities, build upon what is present, and create a future with a dynamic vision for our beloved country.
The Ethnic Relations Commission congratulates the entire Nation on this significant milestone and reiterates that as we celebrate, to think ahead and work together for a prosperous and united Guyana of which we can all be proud.
