RAPE accused Leon Balgobin called ‘Junior’ was granted $75,000 bail on Monday after Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo was informed that the virtual complainant facilitated a breach of a previously issued protection order. The virtual complainant had, last January 18, successfully petitioned the Court to issue the restraint against Balgobin, stating that she was afraid of him.
However, Probation and Welfare Officer Mitford Warde reported, at New Amsterdam Court, that the alleged victim visited the accused in prison on January 22.
Balgobin is charged with having forced sexual intercourse with the woman on January 17.
Police said she was at an East Canje nightspot, also in Berbice, when, after receiving a call on her mobile phone, she left with Balgobin, with whom she had a previous relationship.
The case will be called again on April 12.
