CANBERRA, Australia (CMC) – Effervescent West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the forthcoming limited overs series against Australia and Wavell Hinds has been picked as his replacement. Bravo has not recovered from the finger injury he suffered playing for Victoria in the Australia Big Bash tournament last month and will be returning home from the tour.
“Bravo failed to recover from a finger injury and will not be able to participate in the limited-overs series, which will include five One-Day Internationals and two T20 Internationals,” the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced in a press release late Wednesday.
“He sustained a damaged right thumb last month and will require additional time to recover,” the release stated.
Bravo will return to Trinidad to continue his rehabilitation and the WICB release said it is expected that he will be fit for the Digicel Series (West Indies v Zimbabwe) which starts on February 28.
The 33-year-old Hinds, out of the international cricket for over three years, replaces Bravo after useful scores so far in the current WICB Regional first class championship.
The left-handed Hinds, who last represented West Indies at the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy in India, has scored 330 runs in four innings so far in the regional season including a century (151) against Guyana.
West Indies and Australia will face off in the first of five One-Day Internationals on Sunday in Melbourne and end the tour with two Twenty20 internationals on February 21 and 23
