After Sunday night shooting…

MMC security guard charged with manslaughter

MEKDECI Mining Company (MMC) security guard Romeo Jones, 23, has been charged with the manslaughter of the man he allegedly shot on Sunday night.

The accused (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

The indictable charge said the prisoner unlawfully killed Quacy D’Anrade on January 31.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Jones, stating that the case file is not fully in order and requested a date for report.

The Prosecutor said the victim was shot on his right side of his chest but the accused told the Court it was not a willful act.

Jones said he was responding to an alarm and had been armed with a gun when he arrested D’Anrade for an alleged battery theft and put him to sit in the back of a vehicle.

He claimed D’Andrade attacked and choked him and, within seconds, he heard his gun fire.

The shooting occurred outside Roraima Airways, Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown offices

The case will be called again February 10.
