NLC maintain unblemished record

GCB 3 day competition..
NEW Line Cavaliers (NLC) maintained their unblemished record in the Demerara zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) sponsored nationwide three day first division competition, when they defeated Police sports Club (PSC) by eight wickets at the Canal Number Two ground last Saturday.

Winning the toss and asking their visitors to bat first on the first day (last Sunday), NLC bowled out PSC for 119 in 39.1 overs, with the pugnacious Rawle Browne leading the way with 27 (6×4), while he received support from Shameer Fazal (19; 2×4), Pernell London 17 (3×4) and Randolph Knights 11 * (1×4).

Stand in skipper Balram Samaroo led from the front for NLC, taking 4-27 while Budhan Baksh offered him support with 3-27 in PSC’s innings, to which the home replied with 163, after resuming play on the second day on 144-8.

Paul Wintz led the batting for NLC who were 78-7 in their reply, with 41 and along with Baksh’s 33 (2×4), Cowen Ismond 29 (4×4; 1×6) and Chabiraj Ramcharran 23(4×4), took their team to 163 and with it a lead of 44 runs over the lawmen.

Vishal Jaigobin continued his impressive performance with the ball, claiming 5-49 his second five wicket haul in succession and along with Knights who grabbed 4-31, helped restrict the Canal Number Two based NLC team first innings lead to a manageable one for PSC.

But the highly underrated Chien Gittens had other ideas in mind for NLC who were missing three key players in Mahendra Nagamootoo, Andre Percival and Gajanand Singh and he showed why, when he scalped 5-25 with his medium pacers, which bowled out Police for a meager 63 in their second innings.

Gittens received amicable support from Avinash Sookdeo (2-7) and Samaroo 2-17, as only Jermaine Jones’ 14 (2×4) and Orin Heyliger 12 (2×4) were the lone batsmen to reach double figures for PSC, who set NLC with a small target of 20 runs for victory.

They got same, even though they lost two wickets in the process, finishing on 20-2 with Andrew Lyght Jnr who struck three sixes in the first over which was bowled by Jaigobin, in his unbeaten 18, as Heyliger took 2-6 for PSC which was not enough to prevent NLC moving to 51 points with the win.
