Selling their country short

I HAVE noted the strident responses in the letters columns and elsewhere in the media from the backers of Ms. Janette Bulkan to the stand by the Guyana Government on her persistent misrepresentations on its forestry sector policies and the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

Surely they do not expect the government to remain silent in the face of the unwarranted distortions intended to mislead people here and abroad about important national strategies?

Guyana has been recognised and acclaimed for its forestry sector policies and the LCDS; but Bulkan and her ilk are using the country for personal gain by selling themselves internationally as credible experts on Guyana and forestry.

It was most surprising that, given her clearly biased stance, Bulkan was appointed a member of the World Bank’s Technical Advisory Panel of its Forest Carbon Partnership Facility, where she had responsibility for reviewing Suriname’s Readiness Planning Preparation.

She should not have been on such a panel because her impartiality has been in question and she cannot be regarded as an unbiased and objective member.

It seems to me that much of the criticism against the Guyana Government on this issue is because it has exposed the shenanigans such people have been getting away with.
