Khan leads Trophy Stall chess tournament

TAFFIN Khan has assumed the lead in the Trophy Stall chess tournament which started last Saturday at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club.

When Khan came up against Shiv Nandalall in round one, Nandalall found himself under early pressure and was unable to recover. Khan went on to defeat Chino Chung and Irshad Mohamed in round three and four respectively.

In round two, Brian Thompson created a shocker by defeating Loris Nathoo, while Carlos Allicock upset Errol Tiwari.

In other highlighted games, Irshad Mohamed and Wendell Meusa played to a draw, Khan beat Chung and Nandalall whipped Dennis Dillon.

In other action in round three, Thompson got past Allicock, Muesa defeated Nathoo, Nandalall thrashed Perreira, Chung, Tiwari, Nowrattan Persaud got the better of Ryan Singh, Dillon and Alex Joseph.

The points standing after three rounds reads: Taffin Khan and Brian Thompson three (Khan is ahead on the tiebreaker system), Wendell Meusa two and a half, Carlos Allicock, Chino Chung, Shiv Nandalall and Errol Tiwari on two points apiece, Irshad Mohamed on one and a half, Loris Nathoo, Ryan Singh, Michael Pereira and Nowrattan Persaud on one apiece.

In the junior category, Saeed Ali is ahead on the tiebreaker system with three and a half points from four games. He is closely followed by Rashad Hussain and Raan Motilall also on three and a half points. Khan Khan, Ron Motilall, Carlos Petterson and Khalid Gajraj on three apiece, Sham Khan and Daniel DaSilva on two and a half, Stanley Ming Jr, Ashwant Satamand, Mandy Ramnarine, Miranda Ramnarine, Vaughn Moses. Ganesh Persaud and Denzel Dillon all on two points apiece. Seven players are tied on one point apiece.

The tournament continues today and Thursday for the seniors only with round four from 17:45 h at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club. The juniors will conclude the final three rounds this Sunday at the same venue from 10:00 h.
