$250 000 sponsorship for first division team

Gizmos and Gadgets on board with RHTYSC …
HAVING played under the sponsorship of COURTS Guyana Incorporated from 1995 to 2006 and Windies Sports Bar from 2007 to 2008, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) first division team will now be playing under the sponsorship of electronic giant Gizmos and Gadgets.

At a simple presentation ceremony held in the newly constructed store which is located at the corner of Wellington Street and North Road, marketing manager of the sponsor, Leisa Waddell, handed over the first part of the sponsorship along with the new uniforms the team will be decked out in.

Prior to the handing-over ceremony, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the club, Hilbert Foster, outlined the achievements of the team, from the time they played their first ever first division match in 1992 to present.

“What others can dream of achieving, we have through hard work, and one of the greatest sources of joy over our 20 years of existence is the performance of our first division team who have played their first game back in January 1992 to present.

They have played a total of 561 matches, winning 473, losing 69 and drawing 19 and that in itself speaks volumes of their performance, as they have added 30 cricketing titles in Berbice, along with two national titles and a runner-up title in 2009 while producing five senior national players,” Foster stated.

He continued, “Sixteen national junior players, along with dozens of others for Berbice, which was named the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Club-of-the-Year in 2004, 2005 and 2009, we are confident will be given more titles by cricket’s governing body here in Guyana in the future. Our internal structure and development of talents enable us to dominate cricket at the junior level while our senior team and Albion Sports Club, are the teams to fear when it comes to first division cricket in the Ancient County.”

The first division team was first sponsored by COURTS Guyana Incorporated from 1995 to 2006, before former managing director of COURTS David Burgess took over the duties through his entity Windies Sports Bar from 2007 to 2008.

Although they played under the name Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar throughout 2009, they did so without any sponsorship, as Burgess had migrated back to Scotland his homeland, hence Gizmos and Gadgets’ timely intervention, which was organised by Marketing Director of Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Wystan Roberts, is greatly appreciated.

According to Foster, the team is delighted to be associated with one of Guyana’s fast expanding companies and would be renamed the Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets first division team and as an added bonus for the company, the club’s Under-23 team would also be playing under the same name.

Foster assured the sponsors that the club which will be having their annual awards ceremony on Saturday March 27, would continue to work hard for success as they continue to uphold the high standards they have in place and at the same time, make their senior players available for promotional activities.

The team currently has three players on the Guyana national team in brothers, Esaun and Royston Crandon, and national vice-captain Assad Fudadin. According to the CEO of the club, Esaun Crandon would skipper the side with Fudadin as his deputy.

Special emphasis would also be placed on exposing numerous youth talents such as Shawn Pereira, Lloyden Lewis, Clinton Pestano, Dominic Ricky and Lenny Sinclair just to name a few, as they are all future stars in their own rights.

Making some brief remarks on behalf of Gizmos and Gadgets, marketing manager Leisa Waddell expressed her employer’s proud feelings at being affiliated with such an established and recreational club in Guyana.

“Gizmos and Gadgets has always been proud to be affiliated with established recreational games that not only enhance physical well being and mental aptitude, but provide opportunities to our Guyanese youth to progress in their chosen field.

“We have been impressed by the teams’ dedication and consistency and it is for these reasons, we at Gizmos and Gadgets have chosen to sponsor the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club first division team in the 2010 cricket season and we hope this relationship will continue to foster the development of these talented Guyanese,” Waddell stated.

The sponsorship deal for 2010 which is worth $250 000 along with uniforms, trophies and gifts for the club’s annual award ceremony, will be handed over in three parts throughout the year, with the first instalment being handed over in March.
