Wounding defendant accuses victim of sexual assault attempt

DESMOND Rigby, 27, was refused bail yesterday on a felonious wounding charge.

He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to the allegation that, on January 3, with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm, he wounded Terry Ferrier.

The virtual complainant said he was on his way home when the defendant demanded that he hand over his belongings and, after he refused, Rigby chopped him on his head with a cutlass.

However, the defendant claimed the two of them work together on a wharf and, three days before the chopping, he was sleeping and the virtual complainant cut the back of his pants and attempted to sexually assault him.
Rigby said he never forgot that incident and wanted to kill Ferrier.
The case will be called, again, on January 28.
