TE/Banka DIH Grass Track series Rajkarran cannot wait for Sunday

AFTER a successful day at the inaugural meeting of the Titan Entertainment/Banks DIH organized and sponsored grass track series at the Hampton Court ground in Essequibo, present points leader in the professional category Andrew Rajkarran is eagerly looking forward to Sunday’s meeting at the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC).

“I am feeling good and I am ready. In fact, I can’t wait for Sunday to go out there and thrill the fans with my performance, with one eye on the weather but I am looking at giving them a better performance than what the Essequibians had.

And with the presence of Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira, Vassy Barry, Andrew Wong and Charles Henry, the competition will be high, for I know these guys especially Vieira will be coming at me with all guns blazing, as they want to take over the leaders’ position” Rajkarran said.

Both Vieira and Barry along with Daniel Ally for reasons unknown, were unable to make the inaugural meeting organized by the Carlos Rodriguez led Titan Entertainment group on the 29th November, but are all expected to be in the saddle on Sunday.

The 35 year old Rajkarran, who also competes in programmes organized by the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) at the South Dakota circuit with his Suzuki 600, is eagerly looking forward to the challenge from Vieira, Barry, Wong and Henry.

“First of all, I never expected to dominate the Essequibo meet the way I did, especially with home boy and crowd favorite Andrew Wong in the mix, but I had a good day. Everything went well for me, the bike worked good and at the end of the day, I came out on top.”

He continued to state, “Having said that and knowing that Wong experienced some problems with his carburetor, only a fool (which I am not), would not expect him to come back strong in this meet and with the likes of Vieira and Barry in the lineup, things will definitely be an heated affair, but I am prepared for it.”

“I have raced against both Vieira and Wong before and honestly speaking, I was expecting a stiffer competition from Wong who is a great rider in Essequibo, but what’s done is done and its onto Port Mourant on Sunday.

Not taking anything away from Henry and Barry, but both Vieira and Wong are two good riders. Not just plain simple riders, but tactical riders, with Vieira who will be starting at a minus in the points standing, definitely looking to take over the leader board at the end of the day.

My aim is to finish in the top three of every race, which will enable me to garner some more points and increase my lead at the top over both Vieira and Wong who I view as my main threat in this series, but I will not be daunted by their presence as come October 2010, I want to be the one holding onto the championship trophy and the Yamaha YZ 125CC bike that goes to the victor” Rajkarran stated.

He is four points ahead of Henry in the professional category on 32, with Henry on 28 and Wong a distant third on 14, but mechanical problems can occur at any time during such meets and according to Rajkarran, his team are prepared for anything that occurs in such nature.

“This is grass track racing and as the saying goes, ‘today for you, tomorrow for me’ and who knows, come Sunday I can be the one suffering some sort of mechanical problem (not that I am praying for it to happen), but if such do occur, we are prepared to handle it efficiently.

So whosoever wants to come and take my lead, they better be prepared, for I will be going out there to defend my position to the best of my ability, to head into the third round at the top.”

After Sunday’s meet, there will be a break for the festive and New Year season, then its back to action on January 24th at the home of grass track motorcycle racing, Ogle Community Centre as the organisers intend to give all of Guyana a glimpse of the sport that is popular in North America.
