President Jagdeo said that the planned aluminum plant was a casualty of global crisis. With two Bauxite companies facing tough competition, why don’t the President in his travels try to get a third party to build it or join a partnership with the bauxite companies and even government to do so?
Go-Invest must try harder to find partners for joint ventures needed to bring about large scale projects. The Lethem to a deep sea port is a classic example. Without the commitment that infrastructure from point A to point B will be built, possible investors in the various phases will not see the possibility of a successful investment opportunity. We need a deep sea port first in Berbice, then in Essequibo. Similar partnerships are needed with investors in and out of Guyana to help dredge the Demerara river, and move products to markets overseas.
