… Camptown, Milerock seek third place honours
GEORGETOWN Football Association’s (GFA) Premier League champions Alpha `The Hammer’ United and the Guyana Defence Force football teams will collide tonight in the final of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Inaugural Super league tournament at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Kick-off time for the final is 19:00 h. This match will be preceded by the third place playoff between Georgetown’s Sunburst Camptown and Upper Demerara’s Milerock from 17:00 h.
Additionally, from 15:00 h, a national Under-20 team will take on a national rest team, to supplement the day’s card.
Originally, the national Under-20 team was scheduled to face Trinidad and Tobago’s Joe Public, but this match was cancelled due to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in the Twin Island Republic.
According to a release from the GFF, the match had to be cancelled because of security reasons.
The GFF in its release stated that “as a direct consequence of the Commonwealth heads of Government Conference which is being held in Trinidad, and for related security reasons, the Trinidad and Tobago Professional League Games had to be rescheduled.”
It stated that in the new schedule, Joe Public had to play on Friday and would also be playing tomorrow; therefore it would no longer be possible for the team to be in Guyana today to play the Under-20 `Golden Jaguars’.
Meanwhile, for tomorrow’s final, Alpha, the four-time GFA Premier League champions will be spearheaded by team captain Howard Lowe in defence, along with Kelvin McKenzie, Abassy McPherson and Anthony Harding, while Shawn Bishop, the team’s overlapping midfielder will be supported in the middle by Dwaine Jacobs and Edison Gomes.
The strike line will be led by Andrew Murray in tandem with Dwight Peters and Quincy Madramootoo.
Ronson Williams will perform duties between the uprights.
GDF will be relying heavily on Stellon David and Delroy Dean
Lance Rawlston and Telson McKinnon will be seeking to continue their fine Premier League showing in order to secure a third place spot for Sunburst Camptown in this inaugural `Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’ FIFA-sponsored tournament.
