– remanded until August 24
DENNY Hunter, charged with breaking and entering and larceny, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry and was remanded to prison.
Hunter (no address given) pleaded not guilty to the charge which said, between June 1 and August 9, at Lombard Street, he broke and entered the Spare parts store of Puran Mohabir and stole 40 ‘ring gears’ and a quantity of metal equipment all valued $500,000.
Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant has regularly been suffering losses at the store.
She said after someone from the neighbourhood called him and told him that his store was being robbed, the virtual complainant turned up there to find Hunter inside.
Griffith requested that the defendant’s bail be refused because he had several brushes with the law previously.
Hunter claimed that he saw an old iron gate in Mohabir’s yard and went in to pick it up to sell.
He also mentioned that he had to be hospitalised because he was severely beaten by Mohabir and others.
Hunter will remain in jail until August 24.
