Thirty-seven-year old Colin Vieira of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, injured when his motor cycle collided with a minibus on the La Grange Public Road on Tuesday night, remains in a critical condition in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital. Vieira and his pillion rider, Ganesh Jairam, 35, of 20 Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara, were both injured and rushed to the institution. The accident occurred around 19:00 h. Meanwhile, Jairam, who suffered injuries to his head, was admitted to the Male Surgical Ward. Writhing in pain yesterday, Vieira told the Guyana Chronicle that all he could remember was that he was riding his motor cycle from Canal Number One, towing his friend Jairam, when they were suddenly struck from behind. He was unable to give any details of the vehicle that struck them off the machine. Residents in the area reported to the accident to the La Grange Police who visited the scene and rushed both men to hospital. It is understood that Vieira’s badly damaged motorcycle was lodged at the police station.
Vieira suffered a broken right hand, a compound fracture to his right leg, injuries to his head and abrasions about his body and was sent to the Main Operating Theatre and later, the High Dependency Unit.
