OSWALD Roberts and Donnette Awer, who faced a joint drug trafficking charge, were remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.
Roberts (no address given) and Awer, of Lot 22 Kalicharran Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, both pleaded not guilty to the allegation that they had 88 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose, at Soesdyke, on July 23.
The defendants were refused bail after Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said there is no provision for it in the section of the law under which they are charged.
The Prosecutor said Police went to a shop at Soesdyke Junction where the defendants were and found the narcotic.
Defence Counsel Michael Somersall, for Awer, said she works part time with Roberts as a cleaner and was heading to Georgetown that day when her employer asked her to go to his house to do some cleaning.
Somersall said it was, as she cleaned the shelves, that Police arrested her.
But the magistrate said the fact is that Awer was present when the prohibited substance was discovered.
Somersall interjected that Awer heard Roberts saying that the marijuana belonged to him.
Defence Counsel Adrian Thompson, for Roberts, said many other persons were present in the shop at the time of the find.
The case has been transferred to Providence Court, on East Bank Demerara, too, for July 29.
