Woman remanded on larceny, robbery charges

MARQUITTA Hilliman called Claire, 22, of Lamaha Park Squatting Area, North Ruimveldt, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, charged with larceny from the person and robbery with aggravation.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to both offences and was remanded to prison overnight, to make another appearance today.

It is alleged that, on June 4, she stole a gold band valued $65,000 from Michelle Chung and, on June 11, being together with another, robbed Marissa Umrao of another gold band worth $90,000.

Umrao, who was in Court, said Hilliman and a man committed the crime.

The virtual complainant said Hilliman emerged from a crowd as she was walking along Hinck Street, also in Georgetown.

Umrao said public-spirited persons tried to apprehend the duo but they were deterred because Hilliman and her male accomplice pulled something from their waists.
