FIFTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Christopher Anderson, nicknamed ‘Happiness’, of Lot 2566 Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has been charged with the murder of his uncle, Garnett Woolford.
The accused appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, his second Court appearance following an April 25 cutlass attack on the victim who died in hospital on May 4.
Anderson did not have to enter a plea to the capital offence but he pleaded not guilty to another charge, which said, on April 21, he assaulted Police Constable Mortimer Smith, a peace officer acting in the execution of his duties.
The accused was remanded to prison, until July 21, on the unlawful killing charge.
Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said Anderson chopped Woolford several times about his body after they had a disagreement.
The Prosecutor said Anderson had previously threatened to kill Woolford on several occasions.
According to Seetaram, Anderson threw a hot cup of coffee on Smith who was about to arrest him and the policeman, who lost his left eye as a result, also suffered several chop wounds to his head and other parts of the body.
