SHELDON Gurrick, 28, of Lot 146 Titus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, charged with receiving stolen property.
The indictable charge alleged that, between February 7 and July 28, 2008, the accused received a revolver valued $119,480, property of Chunilall Babulall, knowing it to have been stolen.
Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, said the gun mentioned in the charge was used in the Bartica massacre that claimed the lives of Zaheer Zakhir, Shane Fredericks, Ronald Gomes, Irving Ferreira, Errol Thomas, Edwin Gilkes, Dexter Adrian, Baldeo Singh, Ashraf Ally, Abdool Yasseen, Baldeo Singh and Ron Osbourne, on February 17, 2008.
The Prosecutor informed the Court that Gurrick has a similar case before another magistrate and the preliminary inquiry (PI) is about to begin but he was granted $150,000 bail by the High Court.
Gurrick later made an appearance before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, to whom Magistrate Robertson transferred the latest case and a summary charge was read to him.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until July 27. (Telesha Persaud)
