The Government Analyst and Food Department is alerting the general public to refrain from purchasing or consuming Cadbury chocolate bars, specially the fruit and nut, and whole nut brands displaying expiry date June 2009, and a batch number L8017-DA1-17:22 and L8038DC1- 14:25.
These are being sold at extremely low prices to consumers by wholesalers and retailers nationwide.
The department has seized a quantity of nine bars of fruit and nut 250g and 15 bars of whole nut 400g from Satro’s Supermarket on Croal Street in the city.
Organoleptic tests have revealed that this specific flavour is worm-infested and has a tainted flavour which could have possibly resulted from substandard materials and/or improper storage, and therefore not of the required quality for sale to consumers.
The Department is advising that chocolate should be stored at a maximum temperature of four degrees Celsius throughout the useful shelf life of the product as depicted by its expiry date.
The Department has advised wholesalers and retailers to recall this product.
And consumers are asked to refrain from purchasing these chocolates, and if possible contact the Department on telephone number 222-8857-61 for more information.
