PASTOR DANIEL Singh has been writing to the Editor with great aplomb about the pre-History of the world with its Dinosaurs, Ida’s and other pre-Human extinct animals. He has aggressively affirmed that the big bang formed the planet Earth and has even claimed that matter and anti-matter were produced at the same time by that event. He also quotes with great reverence the well-known Darwinian Evolution Scientist, Dr. Ian Tattersall.
Daniel clearly does not literally believe the Hebraic myth that the world was suddenly created in 4004 B.C. at a time when the civilisation of Mesopotamia and the Indus and Yangtze valleys were flourishing in full swing. And he obviously understands the metaphorical nature of the Adam and Eve myth.
The great Cuban and West Indian poet, Nicholas Guillen, used to speak of the “Africa Underground” in the Caribbean Psyche and culture. The ‘Hindu Underground” which fully accepts Archaeology’ History and the Biological Sciences as a valid facets of truth seem to be quietly and unconsciously asserting itself in Daniel’s psyche. Daniel is smarter than his detractors think he is a genuine “smart man” in the American sense and not in the Guyanese usage of the phrase.
