CHAIRMAN of the Linden Interim Management Committee (IMC), Mr. Orrin Gordon is at odds with Acting Town Clerk, Mr. Edward Cedreno.
At issue is the manner in which a discarded front end loader was sold for $800,000 when, originally, the asking price was $1.5M.
Gordon said the IMC had discussed the sale when a bid for $500,000 was received and rejected.
He said another offer was made after the price was reduced to $1.2M and, being a serious proponent of maximising earnings from anything belonging to the municipality for the benefit of the community, he recalled rejecting a valuation by a valuator from the Ministry of Works.
Gordon said that refusal of less than a million dollars started a war within the IMC but, subsequently, the sale earned $2.5M.
He mentioned another instance when a tractor was valued at $150,000 and but fetched $800,000 after the price tag was questioned.
Gordon said, from the $2.5M, the IMC was able to purchase a minibus which was supposed to be used for revenue collection but is not serving that purpose because of the “Administration’s behaviour.”
He said more vehicles were up for sale recently and Cedreno sold a back hoe for $800,000 when the $1.5M and, later, $1.2M was being asked.
Contacted for comment, Cedreno said all the deals were approved by the appropriate authorities and, when the particular $500,000 bargain was struck, he did not attend the approving meeting.
