Dress Rehearsal For A Funeral’ at the NCC next weekend

CARLOS Russell’s ‘Dress Rehearsal For A Funeral’ is scheduled for the National Cultural Centre for the weekend of July 18, presented by the Dramatic Arts Academy and directed by Neaz Subhan.

The play is at once hilarious and serious, as the funny scenario and lines tend to mask a serious treatment of things we take for granted, with regard to the finality of death and loss, and the aftermath of inheritance and coming to grips with what is left.

In the play, Calvin rehearses his own funeral, designed to let him know how those around him feel about him, and how his property is to be dispensed with when he really dies.

Of course, it doesn’t all run smoothly, and the action unfolds with much outlandish carryings-on.

And there is a twist, the telling of which would rob the theatre-goer of much of the fun.

The cast includes Howard Lorrimer, Mahadeo Shivraj, Leslyn Lashley, Laverne George, Derek Gomes and Michael Ignatius.

The play runs at the Cultural Centre from July 18 to 20.
