HOW can you protect if you don’t first serve? We are public citizens whose lives have been recently impacted by crime. Our home in N/E La Penitence was broken into while we were at work. I came home to an open front door and empty house. Food items, clothes, money, jewellery and toiletries were all gone. I lodged a complaint at East La Penitence station in which CID came to visit my home to evaluate and take a statement. The rank never passed the front door but stood outside and took our statement as to what took place. He did not come into the house to look around.. After taking the statement we were instructed not to touch anything because forensics was to come out and dust for prints. Mind you this incident occurred two Sundays ago. I came home on a Monday morning; I’m still waiting on forensics.
We acquired information from several people and reported the information to the station. We know who the perpetrators are and they (police) still will not make an arrest. They say we can’t tell them anything because we weren’t there but many citizens know about the incident. But unless they were there it’s all “hear-say.”
I feel as if I am being failed as a tax paying citizen. I’ve not only been violated, I’m feeling unprotected. The only thing I’m afraid of is what I may do to these people while I’m feeling threatened, and victimised. We work very hard to live and to have it swept away by bandits and junkies.
