Reports said a canter rammed the side of the Gem Taxi Service motor car he was driving and he suffered severe head injuries.

His brother-in-law, Rajendranauth Tribuhan said the accident occurred around 05:30 h a short distance from Aracari Resort, at Versailles.

The victim had been employed with Gem’s in Georgetown and was on the way to his base when tragedy struck.

Tribuhan said Seecharran started to work for the service a week ago and had left home early to cross the Demerara Harbour Bridge before its scheduled closure.

Tribuhan said the truck driver and its owner, who were in the cab, fled the scene after the collision.

He disclosed that the driver was successfully persuaded by the wife of the owner to turn himself in to Vreed-en-Hoop Police, also on West Coast Demerara, where the man who owns the vehicle also surrendered.

Both men are being held there and the damaged vehicles, as well.

The Guyana Chronicle learnt that the truck owner usually travels to Meadow Bank wharf, in the city, too, to buy fish which he sells for a living.

Seecharran leaves to mourn his wife, Vanita, 23, their nine-month-old son, Justin and close relatives.

The now widow was weeping inconsolably at their home where a male relative, who chose anonymity, described Seecharran as a humble, quiet man who seldom drank alcohol but had tremendous love and respect for his family.

The relative said the mishap happened when Seecharran was in his prime and blossoming in life. He had recently left the interior, where he lived with his parents, to join his family on the coast.

Police reported that Seecharran was driving HB 5633 in a southerly direction when the crash involving GLL 8336 took place as they proceeded in opposite paths.

The report said, as a result, Seecharran suffered injuries and was pronounced dead at West Demerara Regional Hospital.
