THE Guyana Police Force needs to step up its patrols in and around Georgetown and set up more community policing groups in Georgetown. Georgetown is plagued with bandits robbing people, break and enter people homes and stores, carting off items they can sell. This is getting out of control since fewer bandits are caught.
There are some gangs with young men on bicycles going around prospecting people businesses and homes. As soon as opportunities arise they strike; they break padlocks, forced open grills and break windows to gain access.
On South Road bandits entered four places in quick succession. On one occasion they forced open a grill door and stole a businessman’s tyres, scooter rims and oils. On another occasion they broke off the padlocks on two grill doors and took away a pair of sliding doors. Then in another yard in bright day light they saw off a padlock and stole a bicycle. Before that they had stolen a compressor, water pump and a washing machine from the other yard during the day.
Properties involving businesses are unsafe in Georgetown despite a few police patrols. Much more needs to be done to get rid of these thieves who are wrecking havoc in Georgetown. They seem to be unconcerned about the police and the consequences. Something drastically has to happen such as shooting them out before the situation can be brought under control.
