Man shot during scuffle with Police ranks

A SCUFFLE between two police ranks and a civilian ended with the man being shot in one of his hands.

During a foot patrol in the Stabroek Market area around noon yesterday, two ranks came across 25-year-old Andre Allicock, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, sitting in a chair with a plastic bag.

Police, in a statement on the incident, said that the bag contained 40 grammes of marijuana, leading the two police ranks to arrest Allicock.

However, a scuffle ensued between the three, and as one of the ranks attempted to free himself, a round went off from his firearm hitting Allicock in the palm of his left hand.

The injured man was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public hospital for medical attention.
The marijuana was, however, seized by police and is in lawful custody.
