I note with disgust a letter written by Ms Vanessa Devonish of Lot 2 Atlantic Gardens and published on May 6, 2009 in the Stabroek News and Guyana Chronicle. This letter is misleading and contained several inaccuracies and misconceptions with regards to the Starlite Drive-in Cinema and Entertainment Centre. I, the undersigned have been living for a number of years with my family, my brothers and parents at 141 Atlantic Gardens. My residence is to the western side of the Starlite venue and it is separated by a mere fence. I and my family can speak also for several of my neighbours, are not affected by the music concerts and cultural shows held occasionally at the venue. Neither I nor others have noticed any display of lawlessness or misconduct on stage during or after any shows held there. I am surprised to read Ms. V. Devonish’s letter. This lady lives at Lot 2 Atlantic Gardens, some 22 house lots away from the venue, (two thousand feet) in excess of one quarter of a mile and there are 22 (twenty two) huge buildings between the Starlite Venue & Lot 2, thus blocking the breeze and sound to her residence. How in heaven’s name can the sweet sound of music disturb this lady on Saturday, May 2, 2009, when she is so far away and the music was at the usual low volume? The tone and details in Ms. Devonish’s letter is so blatantly false and mischievous, it certainly reflects that she is encouraged to sing the same mantra of a Muslim preacher and priest to tarnish the good name of the Starlite Drive-in and see its doors closed. He gets envious when he sees poor people enjoying themselves, all because he is so obsessed with his perceived wealth and poison-filled ego which have blinded him. The Starlite venue was zoned and registered as a cinema and entertainment centre in 1960 and held several live cultural shows of music and dances long before the Atlantic Gardens was conceptualised. It was his choice to live near the already existing venue. He said the show on May 2, 2009 went into the wee hours of Sunday morning. I am surprised that a person of his high standard can be misled to write so much inaccuracies because the show on May 2, 2009 ended at 12:15 am and this can be confirmed by many dignitaries who were present. You can be assured Ms. V. Devonish, that the show on May 16, 2009 is still on and I am looking forward to see Radika and more Radikas and I am inviting you to come and bring your children to witness for yourself an evening of refreshing and fun filled entertainment, and if you so desire, you can invite your Muslim priest over.
