There has been another failed attempt to embarrass the PPP/C Administration, this time by the Opposition Alliance for Change (AFC) in the form of an advertisement placed in a Trinidadian newspaper during the summit of the Americas held recently in the twin island Republic.
The advertisement alleges, among other things, that there is no democracy in Guyana. If it was an attempt by the party to gain some attention from the US President, then they most certainly did not succeed.
The AFC should be aware that in every democracy there are persons who oppose programmes and projects that the incumbent government is pursuing. The wrangling by the AFC would not have surprised any of the Head -of State as they too would most likely be facing extremists in their country.
While it is everyone’s right to express their views, I question the sincerity of political leaders, who choose to use these occasions to try to bring disrepute to Guyanese. They would have known that their ‘prank’ would have no impact on the conference so what else could be their aim?
After creating these forms of embarrassment, these same opposition forces question the effectiveness of Government in dealing with the attitude of customs and immigration officials in some countries, when they are outrightly disrespectful to Guyanese.
It is time, that all Guyanese understand that when political parties take their politicking, to the international arena with unsubstantiated claims, it is the ordinary man who suffers. This action should be condemned.
