GAVIN McLennan, 20, of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, was, on Monday, sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $15,000 with the alternative of another 20 days in jail for drug trafficking.
He was one of four defendants who appeared before Magistrate Chandra Sohan, at Albion Court, Corentyne, Berbice, following a Police raid on a house dubbed a ‘drug block’ at Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, last April 10.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Faizal Karimbaksh, prosecuting, said the bust was the result of surveillance and those arrested included a 14-year-old who was ordered to be kept in police custody.
The others were Jason De Nobrega, 17 and Jason Prass, 20, both of Number Two, also in East Canje.
McLennan, who said he is a gold miner, claimed the four grammes of cocaine and 11 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) with which he was busted, were given him by another man.
The two other defendants, who are charged jointly with the prisoner, too, were remanded to prison until a date is fixed for their trial.
