EULEX Cosbert, of Lot 34 East La Penitence, Georgetown, has been charged with shoplifting in Berbice.

The woman, who said she is a mother of six, appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud, at New Amsterdam Court, where she pleaded not guilty to simple larceny and was granted $25,000 bail.

It is alleged that, on Friday, April 12, the defendant went into J’s Supermarket in Essex Street, New Amsterdam, where she pretended to be shopping in company with three other women.

However, aware of previous losses, the employees in the shop were monitoring the quartet through surveillance cameras and saw Cosbert take a bottle of El Dorado 15-year-old rum, which she placed in her handbag.

She was leaving the business place when the proprietor, Raymond Samaroo, alerted the Police who arrested Cosbert.

The case is fixed for trial on May 25.
