Camptown, Pele to battle for GFA/Milo U-21 honours

SUNBURST Camptown and Pele will battle for championship honours in the Georgetown Football Association’s/Milo Under-21 round robin/Knock-Out Football tournament this evening at the Tucville ground, beginning at 19:00 h.

The match is the feature one on a double- header card that also brings together Fruta Conquerors and Riddim Squad in a friendly affair.

Camptown secured a place in the final at the expense of BK International Western Tigers, and Fruta Conquerors whom they (Camptown) defeated in the quarter-final and the semi-final respectively.

In their quarter-final match against Western Tigers, the Campbellville-based team won by a 1-0 margin while in their semi-final encounter against Fruta Conquerors they won by a 2-1 margin in a come-from-behind victory.

In the preliminary round, Camptown placed second in Group `C’.

Pele, who were unbeaten in group ‘A’ of the round robin phase, proceeded to inflict the largest margin of victory to date, after mauling uprising by an 11-2 margin in the quarterfinals, but bowed out meekly 2-5 to GDF in the semi-finals.

However, a subsequent protest by Pele to the GFA, was successfully upheld after it was discovered that GDF had breached the competition’s rules by playing an ineligible player. This immediately debarred them from further participation.

As such, Fruta Conquerors are the automatic third-place winners while the position for fourth place becomes redundant.

Keifa Small, Rishawn Sandiford, Bevon Moseley, Telson McKinnon and custodian Richie Richards form the core of Camptown’s formidable lineup.

Pele’s response will come from Rensford Coleridge, Okanie Fraser, Sheldon Holder, Joshua Kamal and Keoma Gravesande.

The presentation of prizes will be done immediately after the final and will consist of cash incentives to the winners, runners-up and third-placed finishers along with the respective trophies and individual prizes.
