Post mortem examinations conducted on the bodies of little Isiah and Ewan Munroe, 14 months, and three years respectively, who perished in a blaze that gutted their home at Lot “Q” Hadfield Street last Saturday night, revealed that they died from suffocation.
Relatives yesterday confirmed that the children will be buried at Le Repentir Cemetery tomorrow (Friday), following a funeral service at Robert Lyken’s Memorial Chapel, John Street, beginning at 14:00 hrs.
The toddlers whose mother Anita Bramdeo, 22, had left them unattended in the home while she went out on personal business, were trapped in the building after fire of unknown origin broke out. Since there was a power outage in the area at the time, neighbours speculated that a bottle lamp used by the woman to illuminate the house, may have exploded and caused the conflagaration.
The boys’ father Keiron Munroe was away from the home on business at the time of the disaster. Public spirited neighbours joined the woman’s in-laws, living in the same yard, in attempts at saving the children and putting out the fire out before the fire tender arrived on the scene. However they had already perished when reached by the rescue team.
Meanwhile, the children’s mother was taken into police custody shortly after. She is currently assisting the police with their investigations. (SHIRLEY THOMAS)
