GPL refutes Kaieteur News report of contaminated fuel

Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is refuting claims that 50,000 gallons of heavy fuel from a shipment of 118, 950 gallons that was shipped out to the Skeldon Generation Plant on Saturday last was found to be contaminated.

Yesterday’s edition of the Kaieteur News alleged that four tanks out of a shipment of eight tanks were found to be contaminated when samples were taken from the tanks and tested.

The Corporation, in a release yesterday, claimed that since the vessel was being used for the first time, samples of fuel were taken from each of the eight compartments for analysis before delivery. According to GPL, all the fuel passed the analysis, and discharge was expected to have been completed last evening.

GPL refers to the erroneous report as a “… figment of the imagination of the people of Kaieteur News who have been repeatedly guilty of unethical journalism and who have never retracted fictitious claims or apologised in the past”.
