– following domestic dispute between husband and wife According to reports, the fire started at the house in Third Street, ‘C’ Field Sophia around 20:00 hrs last night, following a dispute between 64-year-old Clinton Barker and his 51-year-old wife, Bernadeth Jackson. Relatives said the two have been living together for the past 10-years. However, they said the woman ‘moved out’ last November but would visit her husband at the Sophia house periodically. It was during one such visit yesterday that neighbours said they overheard Barker and Jackson arguing. Neighbours said the argument became heated later in the evening and then they heard someone ‘screaming’ inside the house. They then went to the house and opened the door where they saw Bernadeth with stab wounds evident on her body. Residents said shortly after Bernadeth was carried-out from the house, it went up in flames. This newspaper was unable to ascertain the origin of the fire which completely destroyed the small wooden house, despite valiant efforts by firefighters who were summoned to the scene. Meanwhile, while the house was on fire, Barker was seen walking away from the scene, clutching his abdomen. Reports are that he sustained serious knife wounds (possibly inflicted by himself) and his intestines were partly protruding. Both were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital last night for medical attention.
