THE final two semi-finalists in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Banks Premium Beer knockout football tournament will be decided tonight when Santos meet Sunburst Camptown and GDF oppose Pele in the final two quarter-final matches at the Tucville ground.
The feature game from 20:00 h will see the Army team tackling the 2008/09 Kashif and Shanghai champions Pele, while in the opening fixture which is scheduled for a 18:00 h start brings together Sunburst Camptown and Santos.
The winners of tonight’s opening match will meet Fruta Conquerors in the first semi-final of the competition on Sunday and this match will be preceded by a GFA division one fixture, while the winners of tonight’s feature game will come against Alpha United in the other semi-final next Wednesday.
This match was originally scheduled to be contested on Sunday, but because Alpha United will be leaving Guyana today for Haiti to take on Tempete on Sunday in a return fixture of the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Caribbean Champions Club Cup tournament, it had to be rescheduled.
Alpha booked their place in the semi-final on Sunday evening with a 3-0 win against GFC.
Elton Browne, Leon Grumble and Dwight Peters scored one goal each for Alpha in the 12th, 35th and 47th minutes, respectively.
Also booking a place in the semi-final were Fruta Conquerors who recorded a 3-1 win against Uprising.
Joel Lloyd netted a double for the winners, while Dellon Williams scored the other goal.
To date, 47 goals have been scored in the 14 matches that have been completed.
Camptown registered a 3-1 win against Kitty Rangers, while Santos scored a 2-0 win against Flamingo.
Both GDF and Pele recorded emphatic 8-0 wins against Houston Stars and Beacons respectively.
Fruta Conquerors beat Thomas United 5-0, Uprising edged BK International Western Tigers 1-0, GFC mauled Black Pearl 7-0, Alpha United defeated the University of Guyana 5-0 last Wednesday before recording the 3-0 win against GFC on Sunday night. (Michael DaSilva)
