Evening of Nostalgia set for tomorrow night

THE Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation will be holding another ‘Evening of Nostalgia’ tomorrow to honour great West Indian cricket icons.

The fifth Evening of Nostalgia will honour Windian Test cricketers Antiguan Vivian Richards, Guyanese Roger Harper, international cricket commentator and columnist Tony Cozier and Perriera himself.

The event, which will be held at the Pegasus Hotel in the past, featured Sir Everton Weekes, Lance Gibbs, Wes Hall, Michael Holding, Ian Bishop, Basil Butcher and Deryck Murray and the late Clyde Walcott.

The event is organised to share the joy of the great players as they stroll down memory lane to West Indies’ cricket in its glory days. Perreira, a notable Guyanese commentator, stated that he chose these persons because Richardson intimidated opposition bowlers when he strolled to the crease.

Harper also has achieved worldwide recognition as WI vice-captain, WI coach and a talented all-rounder while Cozier, in Perreira’s estimation, stands out as one who does commentaries on radio and television, writes a column for newspapers in the Caribbean and is a brilliant cricket historian.

The event is sponsored by De Abreau Creations, Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T), Scotiabank, Dave Narine Food Enterprise of New York, the Pegasus Hotel, and Johnnie Walker. Door prizes will be won.
