ANOTHER policeman on a corruption charge was one of two defendants remanded to prison yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday. Police Constable Kevin McRae, 27, is charged with having, on February 22, being an agent of the State, corruptly accepted $50,000 from Gregory Nichols to avoid prosecution for carnal knowledge and buggery. The cop pleaded not guilty and Attorney-at-law Mr. Winston Murray, who represented him, said he has never been on the wrong side of the law and asked that reasonable bail be granted. Murray also claimed McRae was nowhere around the virtual complainant but Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, said the defendant was caught putting the money in his car. The Prosecutor said Nichols reported the matter after McRae demanded more cash and the defendant was nabbed in a dragnet. The case will be called again on March 2, the day before that of Anthony Vieira, 21, who was also refused bail after pleading not guilty to simple larceny in the same Court. Particulars of his offence said, on January 13, Vieira stole one .32 pistol with 10 matching rounds valued a total of $180,000, property of Wajid Alli.
Vieira has to be back in Court March 3.
