SPORTS sponsorship in Guyana is sometimes very difficult to obtain and even when it happens, most sponsorships tend to be one-off deals.

However, for the 17th successive year, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s Under-15 team has managed to maintain sponsorship with their sponsors for a long period, when Farfan and Mendes renewed their sponsorship of that team last Wednesday.
The Urquhart Street business entity has been sponsoring the defending Berbice Under-15 Champions since 1997 and has pledged itself to a long-term relationship with Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of Farfan and Mendes for the continued confidence in the RHTYSC and for investing in the future of the young cricketers.
Under the sponsorship, the RHTYSC’s Under-15 team won the Berbice Championship four times and numerous others, organised by the Club and has also produced a total of twelve national cricketers, two of whom, Assad Fudadin and Royston Crandon, represented the West Indies, with Fudadin playing Test cricket.
The other players who have graduated from the Under-15 team are Abdel Fudadin, Delbert Hicks, Shevon Marks, Shawn Pereira, Phaffiana Millington, Dominique Rikhi and Parmanand Narine while 39 have represented Berbice over the years at the Under-15 level, even as Pereira, Millington and Assad Fudadin captained Guyana at the junior level.
Foster also disclosed that the Club and its various cricket teams finished 80 self-development programmes during 2013 and have now committed themselves to a target of 85 in 2014, which will include educational, awards, charity, anti-drugs and community development programmes.
The Under-15 team is currently being assessed along with the other junior cricket teams and would be under the management of Office Manager Moonish Singh and coach Winston Smith, with Kevon Anderson being given the reins of captaincy, having as his deputy Emanuel Seecharran.
The RHTYSC Secretary/CEO disclosed that the Club’s discipline committee would also be revamped and strengthened to make sure that all club rules are respected by its membership.
Marketing Manager of Farfan and Mendes Onai Vasconcellos stated that his company was pleased to be associated with the Club and noted that they have represented his Company’s brand with discipline, commitment and distinction.
The 2014 sponsorship deal is worth $200 000 and Farfan & Mendes also co-sponsors the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Annual Review Magazine, Annual Awards Ceremony, Educational programmes and Christmas Charity Programmes.
