Following complete sewer repairs… Regent/Camp Streets junction reopened to vehicular traffic

GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI), yesterday, announced that it had completed repairs to the sewer pump station there and, consequently, the junction at Regent and Camp Streets in Georgetown has been reopened to vehicular traffic.

GWI Senior Project Engineer, Arshad Yacoub said road repair works are still ongoing but commuters can safely utilise the route.
“Our contractors are still working to reinstate the road and this will be completed within two weeks,” he assured.
“However, we have put measures in place to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians can resume using the roadway in a safe manner,” he added.
The concluded job involved the complete rehabilitating of the Regent Street sewer pump station, which included installing new pumps, 30 kva transformers and electrical control panels.
The most difficult aspect was the installation of the new pump, which operates at 35 litres per second and required the breaking and excavating of the roadway and the top slab.
All aspects of the rehabilitation successfully executed formed part of the Government of Guyana (GoG) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded US$10M Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP).
It aimed to rehabilitate all 24 sewer pump stations in the capital city and, following the completion of that segment, work commenced September 23, on the laying  of pipes along Sussex Street going West to the Sussex and Charles Streets junction.
