PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali has called on Guyanese to “vote wisely,” stressing that only experienced and competent leadership can protect the country’s sovereignty and propel its development.

Addressing residents of Region Five during a public meeting in Novar, Mahaicony, the President highlighted the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s (PPP/C) 75-year history of dedicated service, grounded in unity, justice, and development.

“We are pouring the new foundation for Guyana,” President Ali declared. “A foundation of love, a foundation of unity, a foundation of security, a foundation of justice, a foundation of development.”

Outlining his government’s vision for the future, he pointed to ongoing and planned investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and small businesses. He also emphasised the government’s focus on embracing artificial intelligence and digitisation to modernise the economy and create new opportunities for citizens.

Speaking directly about the concerns of farmers in the region, President Ali committed to continuing his government’s support for the agricultural sector. He outlined plans to expand infrastructure to enable precision agriculture, improve extension services, and ensuring these services are accessible to farmers around the clock.

Additionally, he announced a comprehensive support system aimed at boosting the resilience and productivity of farmers. This includes greater access to modern technology, new storage facilities, and the establishment of a stabilisation fund to help guarantee predictable income.

President Ali reiterated that the PPP/C remains committed to hard work and national service, underscoring that the choice voters make in the upcoming 2025 elections will determine the direction of the country’s development and the well-being of future generations.

President Ali urged the electorate to make a serious, informed decision about the country’s future.

“Who is going to defend this country? Who is going to ensure that we keep Guyana for us, that we protect the sovereignty of this country? Who is going to do it?” he asked the crowd, cautioning that national security and international respect are at stake.

President Ali cited the significant progress made under his government’s leadership, highlighting the growing support Guyana has earned from international partners such as the Commonwealth, CARICOM, the Organization of American States (OAS), and powerful allies like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, and Colombia.

“This came with respect. That cannot come about by walking the halls of the international community and saying, ‘Soon, shortly, I’ll come back.’ Right now, you have to be capable.”

He added that the government leading Guyana must not only gain global trust but must also command confidence at home. “The government you elect must have a track record. They must have a history of delivery. You must be able to trust that government. They must demonstrate competence,” President Ali said.

Reinforcing the urgency of the moment, President Ali reminded citizens of the responsibility they bear on polling day.

“Elections are serious business, election is about your future for the next five years, your children’s future,” he said, stressing that only experienced, competent leadership can safeguard the country’s gains and drive it forward.
