Police awards hard working ranks : – Commissioner pays special attention to ‘road lawlessness’” : – $1M+ in incentives awarded

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), on Wednesday, rewarded its hard working ranks – especially those who had gone beyond the call of duty to ensure that law and order were upheld in this country — when it held its annual Anniversary Awards Ceremony on the drill square of the Tactical Services Unit. More than one million Guyana dollars in cash were shared out as incentive for commendable service.

Among those awarded were normal ranks of the Guyana Police Force, those attached to the various community policing groups, and other persons who had assisted in the crime fighting efforts of the Guyana Police Force.

Incentives were given for commendable service and work in the areas of drug busts and firearm seizures, traffic convictions, and solving and cracking cases which went before the courts.

In his address to the ranks,  Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell urged that ranks ensure that they continue their work in the fight to ensure that the safety and security of all Guyanese, and those who come to these shores, are well taken care of.

The GPF head pointed out that Guyana, like any other country, is plagued by crimes and traffic lawlessness; but finding innovative and effective ways to address these issues will see at least the partial suppression of the instances.

Mr. Brumell zeroed in on the traffic lawlessness presently being witnessed on the country’s roadways, and reflected on the number of fatalities as a result.

Police ranks were urged to continue their fight to ensure that the roadways are adequately policed, where necessary. Brumell said that whenever the Guyana Police Force decides to enforce the rules and laws in this country, it is always accused of harassment. However, he pointed out that, for the force, the method is not seen as harassment but as a method which is described as firm investigation and interrogation.

Brumell acknowledged, it remains hard for everyone to be pleased with the work of the force, but he said the force has done what needs to be done to serve and protect the citizens, and this is done in the most professional of ways.
