City Hall’s financial woes continue to worsen

DARKNESS again looms for City Hall following a letter by the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) informing the municipality of its intention to disconnect electricity within a week if outstanding payments in the sum of over a billion dollars are not met. Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green, who seemed quite troubled at this latest development, made the announcement at the council’s fortnightly statutory meeting at City Hall, stating that the GPL letter he received over the weekend informed him that the municipality owes $1,090,525,000.

Meanwhile, City Hall’s financial woes continue to get worse with each passing year.
Chase-Green a few weeks ago said City Hall’s numerous liabilities outweigh the $83M in savings accumulated.
According to her, the municipality has not even fixed a foot of road, or done a single drainage work for quite a period of time because, presently, “its hands are tied.”
Government has time and again had to offer financial bailouts to City Hall.
These are the most barefaced humans on earth’s face for Hamilton Green to say he’s shocked and this Chase-Green woman to even talk.
They all sat there with their PNC colleagues and stole tax- payers’ money and not one of them went to jail
Guyanese must be reminded that it’s not government’s money the government is taking to bail out City Hall thieves.
Guyanese must wake up and realise it’s their money that the government is taking each year to bail out thieves at City Hall.
.
Lindeners are paying $5.00 per KWH while all other Guyanese must fork out a whopping $65.00 per Kwh.
In most PNC- supported villages, electricity theft is on a massive scale where GPL is afraid to enter to catch and jail these thieves.
