A MEETING between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and a visiting delegation from the Chilean International Cooperation Agency on April 16 ended with an agreement to focus on a 2014-2016 programme of cooperation in agriculture, capacity building, mining, language training and trade relations.
The meeting with the Chilean delegation, headed by new Chilean Ambassador to Guyana Luis Fernando Ayala, reviewed the current agreement between the two countries that has benefited Guyana in the areas of agriculture, health, mining and diplomacy.
It came into effect in 1994 when the two countries signed a Framework Agreement on Technical and Scientific Cooperation.
At the April 16 meeting, Ms. Rodrigues-Birkett and Ambassador Ayala reiterated their governments’ commitment to continue collaboration within the CARICOM-Chile mechanism and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) towards the consolidation of regional integration initiatives and support for the sustained development of the countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Region as a whole.
