A TWO-WEEK book and photo exhibition showcasing the life and works of the late President Dr. Cheddi Jagan was opened yesterday at the National Library in Church Street, Georgetown.
Put together by the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, it is one part of a month-long programme organised by the Cheddi Jagan Commemoration Committee.
Member of the committee and board of the centre, Mr. Hydar Ally, said the month of March is very significant for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and the country as a whole, because Dr. Jagan’s birth and death anniversaries are in March; and his wife, the late President Janet Jagan, died in March as well.
Ally noted that the pictures exhibited bring out the multi-faceted nature of Dr. Jagan as a leader, politician, family person, and statesman. He added that the photographs tell a story about the life and work of the national hero, who also authored several books, pamphlets, articles, and other publications.
In addition to a wide array of photographs, several of Dr. Jagan’s books — such as ‘Forbidden Freedom’, ‘The West on Trial’, and ‘The USA in South America’ — will also be on display daily at the National Library for the next two weeks.
Ally urged people to also visit the centre, where there is on display a wide collection of Dr. Jagan’s works and other aspects of his lifestyle.
