THERE was excitement on Brickdam in Georgetown on Christmas Eve Day as several persons collected from the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) ‘Crazy Cash’ promotion at the company’s Blackberry Store. Copping the top prize was Pastor Hemaraj Prashad, who got $1M, while Reaz Ali won the $400,000 second prize that his sister collected on his behalf.
All the contestants were given a box which contained a notice that either allowed them to move on to the next level or receive $50,000. Ten were lucky to each get that sum.
But for the first and second prizes, the two winners had to enter a chamber from where they secured coupons with points that were circulating with the help of pressurised air.
The telecommunications giant also rewarded members of the media for their coverage of the utility throughout the year. To add to the excitement, five members of the fourth estate were, initially, called to enter the pressurised chamber. But, just when they thought that they would have gained entry, it was announced that they will, in fact, select five others who will get that chance.
The media personnel were, however, given $40,000 to be split between the reporters and their cameramen. There was also another benefit from which this reporter and another were rewarded with $10,000 between them to sing the jingle for the recently concluded GT&T Crazy Cash for Christmas promotion.
That rivalry was launched on November 1 and ran for a period of six weeks, during which customers who topped up their cellular phones with $500 and more were automatically entered into the competition.
