WINSTON Abel of 145 Sixth Street Albertown, Georgetown, who is a former employee of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), narrowly escaped death last evening after the motor car he was driving slammed into a concrete median along the East Bank Demerara highway in the vicinity of Eccles and Agricola.
When this newspaper arrived on the scene, a piece of front bumper of the car could be seen plastered on a section of the median while the front and right-side of the car was badly damaged.
The right front wheel of the vehicle found itself underneath the car and the front windscreen was damaged. The police responded promptly to the accident scene and immediately began directing traffic which was mostly built up on the eastern carriage way of the East Bank of Demerara.
Chronicle, last evening, caught up with the injured man’s relatives at the Woodlands Hospital in Georgetown where he was rushed following the accident. There, relatives said that the man was out of danger and was up and alert. With the exception of visible minor cuts and bruises, Abel did not appear to have any external injuries.
This reporter was unable to see the man but reliable sources also confirmed the relatives’ story saying that the man only complained of head and neck pains. Winston Abel is also said to be a Deacon of the First Baptist Church on Creen Street in the city.
