Ruptured Church Street water main disrupts water supply

RESIDENTS of Georgetown yesterday experienced a disruption to their water supply following the rupture of the 20-inch water main on Church Street Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle yesterday Operations Director of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Mr. Joseph Coddette said that around 17:30 hours on Saturday afternoon he was informed that there was water gushing from the main.

altHe said he gathered his crew and visited the site and after their investigations it was discovered that the main pipe was ruptured.
According to Mr. Coddette, works to fix this main began around 07:00 hours yesterday.
He explained that the water supply in Georgetown had to be disrupted in order to facilitate these works. “We thought that just closing down Shelter Belt distribution would have enabled us to do the repairs but what we found out is that central treatment plant and Sophia treatment plant that water is circulating back,” he said.
He stated that with the exception of the Cummingslodge and Queenstown well, water supply in the entire Georgetown is closed off.
According to him, the water supply was expected to have been restored by 22: 00 hours yesterday.
